Opened at the Maha e-Seva Kendra under the National e-Governance Plan, the centre is meant to provide healthcare services to the rural poor at an affordable cost. The telemedicine project is a part of the Common Service Centres (CSC) scheme. The CSC scheme has been envisaged to provide high quality and cost-effective video, voice and data content and web-enabled e-governance services in rural areas.

The project has been implemented by Spanco Limited. The company has provided for installing the required equipment costing Rs. 1.5 lakhs. A check-up will cost a nominal fee of R. 35-50. Spanco has also made 10 special medical kits available each costing Rs.2000 for patients through this centre.

Spanco has collaborated with local healthcare professionals and activists to eradicate filariasis from Sindhudurg district. “Detailed information about the disease is available in Spanco’s Maha e-Seva Kendra and patients are advised to take the benefit of this telemedicine service by visiting the centre,” said Dhananjay Vartak, Head citizen Service Group, Spanco Limited, at the opening.
