In a bid to ensure better governance and efficient delivery of citizen services, Andhra Pradesh government has launched a State Data Centre (SDC).
These data centres are being launched by States under the Mission Mode Project (MMP) of the National e-governance Plan (NeGP).
Powered by Wipro Infotech, the IT business arm of Wipro Limited, the SDC is spread over 9,000 sq. ft. It has a storage capacity of 50 TB (terabyte), expandable to 200 TB, and will host applications and data of various departments to enable automation of government and citizen services. It was inaugurated by Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy.
The SDC has taken care of the entire design, supply and implementation of the physical as well as the IT infrastructure of the SDC. This includes servers, storage, security, network cabling, databases, CCTV surveillance, etc. It will also manage the operations of the SDC on a 24*7 basis.
The Andhra Pradesh government had awarded the SDC project to Wipro in September 2010 with a sustenance period of five years.
Wipro Infotech’s general manager and business head, Government and Defence vertical, Vivek Sharma said the company looks forward to collaborating with the State government on many IT initiatives in the future for increasing transparency and governance given their expertise in these areas.
