The Karnataka government has launched an e-learning programme on a pilot basis in five districts across the State under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Education for All programme).
‘Computers on Wheels’ has been started in collaboration with Intel and Educomp. The latter will provide digital instruction material for better learning.
The programme is meant to bring technology to classrooms – to make computers/laptops accessible to teachers and help them devise learning tools and strategies – and thus make the process of teaching inclusive and participatory.
Five government schools in Karwar, Mysore, Davanagere, Yadgir and Bengaluru rural districts have been chosen to participate in the pilot programme, said a statement.
As the name suggests, ‘Computers on Wheels’ uses a cart to keep netbooks and move it around in classrooms as and when needed. The cart also provides for charging the netbooks and providing wireless access points.
