A total of 1,000 schools across 140 cities in the country will be digitised by the end of the current academic session.
e-learning company Tata Interactive Systems (TIS) has already digitised 100 schools, affiliated to various central as well as State boards, in 52 cities by implementing its Classedge classroom solution and now looks to expand its reach. For now, it will focus on schools in the private sector.
Classedge comprises an Internet connection, a personal computer (PC) and a digital projector. It also provides up-to-date content on the syllabi through a cloud computing model.
The initiative is designed to enable a ‘multiple learning experiences model’, besides empowering teachers with a lesson plan approach. It will enable participation of students in the learning process.
This is in line with the Indian government’s ICT policy on education which envisages the use of computers and Internet to make quality education possible in far flung remote areas. In line with this, an Indo-Africa virtual University was recently launched by the government to enable 10,000 African students to enroll for courses in leading Indian educational institutions.
