The Madhya Pradesh (M.P.) government has decided to extend the Emergency Medical Response Service - 108 to all the 50 districts of the state by the end of this year.
It was also decided at the same meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, that 150 ambulances would be purchased for the same.
As of now, this emergency service is available in nine districts — Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Rewa, Sagar, Jabalpur, with Datia, Damoh and Sehore districts being very recent additions.
The Emergency Medical Response Service-108 is a round-the-clock, seven-days-a week emergency service.
The ambulances would be equipped with all required tools, doctors and staff. They reach the patient or the victim of an accident within an average time of around 18 minutes and provide immediate medical help.
The number 108 can be dialled from both a landline and a mobile and can go a long way in ensuring better, real-time medical aid in cases of emergency. The service would also align itself to various hospitals to provide care after first aid has been tendered.
