Bihar is about to launch 70 new hi-tech buses in its capital town, Patna, to prevent crime and untoward incidents.
These sleek, 32-seater buses will have CCTVs installed on them to keep an eye on unsocial elements and prevent pickpocketing. The control room will have access to these buses via an emergency alarm button at the driver’s seat and a global positioning device (GPS). The GPS device will help them monitor their speed and location at any given point in time. This will also ensure that a back-up bus reaches the spot quickly in case of a breakdown en route.
An inbuilt fire extinguisher as well as a music system for the entertainment of the passengers will be installed in each of these buses. Another feature would be the electronic-ticketing system, to be introduced to avoid fraud. The Transport department is also working on the idea of issuing monthly passes for travelling by these buses.
Though the department is coming out with non-AC buses to begin with, it is planning to roll out AC buses in the future. The service would be available between 5 in the morning and 11 in the night.
