The Department of IT, Government of India (GoI) is in liaison with NASSCOM on how to roll out e-governance services using cloud based IT services. At a recent press conference, Minister of State for Communications and IT, Sachin Pilot said technology giants today have the resources to create best quality products, programmes and applications that can be availed at reasonable costs.
Especially for cities or towns lacking technological infrastructure cloud computing can be a major boon. Known for cost effectiveness, hassle free implementation, and minimal to zero maintenance costs, cloud computing can be used to facilitate “real-time e-governance” across the length and breadth of the country. Project execution will also be faster.
Presently internet penetration in India is 8 percent and cloud computing if used strategically can aid its proliferation substantially. In addition, because of the ability of the technology to handle large number of transactions and citizens can look forward to less congestion bottlenecks. For instance, simple tasks like booking a rail tickets online, which are extremely slow during peak hours now, will no longer be a bottleneck.
