Mangalore passport office linked to police department

The passport office in Mangalore, Karnataka, has been connected with the Police Commissioner’s office via a direct online link to reduce the time taken to verify the antecedents of an applicant.

With the setting up of a computer terminal, the process of physically delivering applications manually from the passport office to the concerned police stations and back to the passport office would become a thing of the past.

Applications submitted at the passport office would be directed to the Police Commissioner’s office using the link. It would then be sent online to the concerned police station for verification. Afterwards, a digital signature on the application by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) would clear the application on the behalf of the Police Commissioner. The application would then be sent back to the passport office online.

The passport office in Bangalore, Karnataka’s capital city, would assign the digital signature for this centre.

Ten officers would be deployed at the terminal in rotation to handle the passport application traffic. They would work under the DCP (Law and Order).
