The Kerala Women’s Commission (KWC) has launched a Short Messaging Service (SMS) service for them to lodge complaints with the Commission. The service is also meant to send SMS alerts about the commission and cases handled by it.
Offering a full range of services, this system allows a woman to file a complaint, track its current status, concerned official’s name, and contact numbers and addresses of offices as well as hostels of the Commission.
The system would ensure speedy action as well as 24*7 availability of information about the Commission and the cases it is working on whereas such information was hitherto available only during office hours.
One can avail herself of the service by sending an SMS to 537252 in the following formats: Vanitha complaint Complaint Description (for registering a complaint), Vanitha CaseNo Year(for present status of a particular case).
The complainant then gets a confirmation SMS, saying: “Complaint registered. You will get a call from the Kerala Women’s Commission”. What follows is a call and much required help.
Given the increasing penetration of mobile phones as well as their portability, hence the chance of it being close to the complainant at any given time, would go a long way in making help available to the aggrieved at a short notice.
