Kerala IT@School project has widened its horizon to include parents by introducing them to Information and Communication Technology.
A part of the 100-day programme of the State government, all high schools will conduct a day-long awareness session to give parents a first-hand experience of the IT@School project.
IT@School project Executive Director K. Anvar Sadath said that this initiative will not only make the parents ICT literate but will also increase awareness about ICT tools being used in the State. He added that this will ensure their participative support in sustaining & upgrading the available ICT facilities in the schools.
The programme was inaugurated on 20 August by Kerala’s Education Minister P.K. Abdurab at Malappuram district and will conclude by 13 September. Each school will submit an online report of the session and schools which conduct the programme impeccably will be recognised.
IT@School ViCTERS (Virtual Classroom Technology on Edusat for Rural Schools) channel broadcasted a special documentary on this initiative on 19 and 20 August at 4 p.m.
Parents who are keen on learning more will be given an extensive ICT training in schools beginning 17 September. Parents will be divided into batches to ensure that normal functioning of the schools is not disturbed.
A detailed training module with elements such as usage of operating systems, word processing, Internet, using computers in Malyalam has been developed. Sadath said the extensive training will equip parents with basic IT functional skills such as writing an email, Malyalam typing, CD writing, and knowledge of cyber security and working of storage devices.
