Department of Information Technology, Delhi is working on the Delhi State Spatial Data Infrastructure (DSSDI) project, which aims to map the capital city’s water pipes, telephone lines, drainage system, electric lines and other public assets.
The DSSDI project also known as the 3D GIS project will help the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary to take informed decisions in relation to security threats.
Savitur Prasad, Secretary, Department of Information Technology, Delhi told FutureGov, “Government security is of prime concern and 3D GIS will ensure that Delhi is not vulnerable to foreign threats and an event like 26/11 in Mumbai could be avoided”.
On deployment, government agencies will see appropriate business transformation to incorporate this tool. “Integration of Delhi’s departments will have its security issues and that is why we are having them connected through intranet as opposed to the internet. Citizens can however, log on to a public domain and do their online interaction with government agencies,” he added.
“The 3D GIS will be on a secured 100 MBPS optical fibre with government agencies having an access speed of 10 MBPS and Internet Protocol cameras would enhance physical security, we are going to have 63 of them installed in the city,” he said.
