Mobile service introduced for voters in Arunachal Pradesh

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will be launching a mobile ‘electoral enquiry’ system in Arunachal Pradesh to provide all election related information to the voters for their convenience.

The unique SMS system will equip voters with relevant electoral information, for instance, their electoral details, nearest polling booth and vote timings. To get the details one has to only send an SMS to a particular mobile number with his or her electoral photo ID (EPIC) number.

Within few seconds, the sender will receive information through a reply SMS by an auto generated system which will provide vital details to voters to ensure his or her trouble free casting of votes. The SMS number will be announced later by public announcement, officials told FutureGov.

The information like, EPIC number, name of elector, Assembly constituency number, part number or polling station number, elector’s serial number in the photo electoral role of particular polling stations will be received by the senders.

The ECI is also going to introduce an online complaint redressal system in the electoral officer’s website (ceoarunachal. nic. in), and establish a call center to lodge public grievances. The number of the call center is 1965 which is a toll free number. The URL of the complaint registration website will be announced for each state by the respective Chief Electoral Officer separately. Complaints can be registered by making calls to the toll free call center numbers or on the web site. Action will be taken within time limit on all complaints. Complainants will also be informed of the action taken by SMS and by the call center. Complainants can also see the details of the action taken on their complaints on the website.

ECI is also applying innovative practices like GIS Mapping in election management, On-line payment to polling staff, Security management and Voters education and awareness creation in the states of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and West Bengal that are all holding General Elections to their respective Legislative Assemblies.
