Come October 2011 and Madhya Pradesh will have its first tier-4 State Data Centre (SDC). A tier 4 data centre infrastructure consists of multiple active power and cooling distribution paths, has redundant components, is fault tolerant, provides 99.995 per cent availability and is least likely to be affected by natural disasters. The SDC will be built within a ‘bomb proof’ building – an important infrastructural requirement for a tier-4 data centre.
The Department of IT, Government of Madhya Pradesh, will be selecting its technology provider this month amongst six bidders including two from HCL Group (HCL Comnet and HCL Infosystems), Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Reliance Infocomm and Sify. The Department has also sanctioned an additional Rs. 10 crore from the state government for the creation of this SDC.
The centralised computers and servers will be used to host multiple applications. Some of the largest e-implementations in Madhya Pradesh include election commission, land records, EKVI Pariyojana, e-Procurement, MP Online, forest financial management, system, web public distribution system, stamps & registration among others.
Presently, the state has two data centres in operation built in partnership with National Informatics Center (NIC), Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporations (MPSEDC) and MP Online. The Government of India is also sanctioning additional revenue for the creation a third data centre for which the Department has floated the tender.
The SDC scheme for establishing such data centres across 35 States/Union Territories in India was approved by the Government in January 2008 with a total outlay of over Rs 1,623 crore towards the capital and operational expenses over a period of five years.
